ISO/TS 16949:2002

What is ISO/TS 16949?

ISO/TS 16949 is a worldwide automotive technical specification.  ISO/TS 16949:2002 (TS-2) is based on ISO 9001:2000, but with adders to address automotive requirements.  Along with customer-specific requirements, it defines quality system requirements for use in the automotive supply chain around the world.

Can anyone get ISO/TS 16949 Registered?

NO.  In order to for an organization to become ISO/TS 16949 registered it must meet one of the following conditions:

1. The organization must supply to a TS 16949 OEM members (BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, PSA, Renault, Volkswagen AG).
2.  The organization is in the automotive supply chain (any tier) of an OEM member.
3. The organization is a potential supplier to an OEM member / subscribing customer.  Evidence of being a potential supplier to a customer requiring TS-could include a Request For Quotation issued to the organization or the organization being on a current bid list of the TS-2 subscribing customer.

ISO/TS 16949:2002 is relevant to automotive production and service part organizations only.  Distributors cannot be registered to TS-2.
