AS9100
What is AS9100? AS9100 is the quality system requirements for suppliers to the aerospace industry issued August of 2001. It was developed in the United States as AS 9000 in 1997, by a group of US aerospace prime contractors, including Allied-Signal. Allison Engine Company, Boeing, General Electric Aircraft Engines, Lockheed Martin. McDonnell Douglas, Northrop Grumman, Pratt Whitney, Rockwell Collins, Sikorsky Aircraft, and Hamilton Sundstrand. Upon the release of AS9000, companies such as Boeing discontinued use of their previous quality supplements in preference to compliance to AS9000. Although aligned with ISO 9001:2000, the AS9100 Standard has 27 additional requirements unique to the aerospace industry and 18 amplifications of the ISO 9001:2000 Standard. Who should implement AS9100? All major aerospace manufacturers and suppliers worldwide command compliance and/or registration to AS9100 as a condition of doing business with them. This includes more than 70 percent of IAQG members have implemented the AS9100 standard internally and are flowing it down to their suppliers.
